In November 2016, unprecedented wildfires burned over 16,000 acres around Tennessee’s Smoky Mountains. While many residential homes were destroyed by the fire, the overwhelming majority of tourist attractions in the popular vacation destinations of Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge were spared. My marketing agency produced this video for the travel website VisitMySmokies.com to get the word out that the Smoky Mountains are still open for business and that local residents are quickly getting back on their feet. The video takes its name from the popular hashtag “MountainTough,” which was trending in the weeks after the fires. I wrote the script, hired the voice-over artist, and gave feedback during post-production. Milestone Pictures filmed and edited the video.
